Thursday, November 28th, 2002: San Diego, CA to Cairns, Australia


The beginnings of a sunrise over the Pacific. The planet Venus is visible as a dot in the upper left.

Our hotel in Cairns. Total time travelling from home to the hotel was about 30 hours.


Friday, November 29th, 2002: The Great Barrier Reef


Beach adjacent to the rainforest that is a World Heritage Site. It's deadly jellyfish season and so swimming is not allowed.

Saturday, November 30th, 2002: Cairns Rainforest


Kuranda Scenic Railway.


Barron Falls, normally a torrent but now only a trickle because over the last three years they have gotten only 25% of the normal rainfall.



We toured the rainforest in an old US Army Duck.

We flew over New Caledonia (shown) and Hawaii.
